IHS Crisis Response

It is with great sadness the Idabel Public Schools administration and staff wants to share with the Warrior Nation about the recent tragic loss of one high school Junior, two recent students and one other individual in a horrible traffic accident. The accident happened Friday night after our home football game.  The Warrior administrative team worked through the weekend to develop a response plan so our students and staff would have the opportunity to cope and express their feelings during this tragedy.

Idabel High School has a Crisis Intervention Team made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel. To effectively assist all members of our school community, I.H.S. hosted two assemblies.  The first assembly at 8:05 AM on Monday, September 28, 2020 in the auditorium. This assembly for the Senior and Junior classes only. The second assembly was held at approximately 8:20 AM on Monday, September 28, 2020 in the auditorium. This assembly for the Sophomore and Freshman classes only. At the conclusion of the assemblies licensed members of the Oklahoma Educational Critical Incident Network, local ministers, and counselors, were made available in the high school library for the remainder of the day.  A special thanks goes out to our county schools for making their school counselors available.  A combination of men and women are available for our students to talk to.  In the library, the tables will be spread out where we can maintain distancing and privacy. A rotating schedule is being created so we can offer similar services for the remainder of the week. We encourage you, as parents, to feel free to use our resources.

We are deeply saddened by this loss to our school community. We are Warrior Strong and will make through this time by coming together for support and comfort. Idabel Public Schools will make every effort to help you and your child as needed through the coming days.

 Sincerely

Doug Brown, Superintendent
